 | Navarathri Festival : The festival commences on Shudda
pratipade of Ashweeja masa (comes in between last week of September
and 5th October) and lasts for nine days. During these days Kalpokta
pooja is performed from the day of MoolaNaksatra till Navami. On the
Navami day Chandika homa, Ranga pooja and Car festivals are performed.
[ In the morning Vijayadasami devotees bring paddy ears, place them
before the image of Goddess and offer worship take them home to place
them at home ( Mane tumbisuvudu ) |
 | Vidyarambha : On Vijayadashami day there is facility for
parents to initiate their children to the process of education. |
Car festival with pageantry, worship at Shamikatta are the special
attractions of this day. The Navarathri festival concludes the next day.

confluence of the rivers - Netravathi and Phalguni (uppinakote)

 | Offering of Sese ( Offering rice seeking blessings ), Saree, blouse,
Drusti ( offering replice of eyes made of metals ) etc. |
 | Prasad : Placing of 21 scarlet flowers (Kepula) on different parts
of Devi's image. The falling of flowers the right hand side of the
image portends success and the falling of flowers from the left
handside of the image portends failure. Falling of the flowers from
the middle portends mixed results. The priests do not manipulate the
result. |
 | Tulabara : The devotees weigh the materials they intend to
other equal to their body weight. This is done in front of the image
and offered as a service. |
 | Pramana : The devotee who intends to take solemn oath in the
name of Mother Goddess takes bath on the bank of the Nethravathi river
at the place called Gorakdande and comes to the temple in wet clothes.
He then comes to the Balikallu ( Sacrifice stone ) and puts out the
light burning on it, three times uttering the words of oath. From that
moment onwards he gets no prasadam or Theertha from the temple. If he
recants and offers the panalties seeking pardon he deserves the favour
of Theertha and Prasadam.
There is also provision for mediation and settlement in the event of a
change of mind on the part of the oath taker. The temple authorities
have the right to settle such disputes. |
